Feast of St Brigid – Thursday 1st February
We honour St Brigid as both the Patron Saint of Ireland and more importantly, as the Patron Saint of our school.  The Brigidine sisters established St Pius X Catholic School in 1962 following the values of Strength and Kindness.  Today St Brigid is recognized for being a woman of strong faith, who showed courage and love to all those in need.  She established the first male monastery and female convent to help prepare those committed to living a life of faith.  We recognize the symbols of St Brigid evident on our school logo: the peace cross and lamp of learning.

Beginning of Year Mass
On Thursday 8th February our community started the school year with a whole school Mass.  This year’s theme of Strength and Kindness helped us to look at ourselves as people of goodwill who follow the footsteps of Jesus and support each other as we learn, play and sing!  It was also a time to Commission our staff as they recognise their commitment to actively support the wellbeing of students and staff to provide inclusive Catholic education for all.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday
Next week, on the Liturgical Calendar, the Church marks the end of Ordinary Time and the Beginning of Lent.  On Tuesday 13th February we will enjoy eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.  It is our time to use up all our eggs, flour, milk and sweet spreads before the beginning of Lent.  Our parish will also burn the palms to create the ashes needed for the next day.  On Wednesday 14th February there will be a quiet time to acknowledge Ash Wednesday and to help us focus on the preparation needed for Easter.  Ash will be used to make the sign of the cross on our forehead as a sign of our commitment to faith, reconciliation and reflection.
