From the School Board
The Board met for the first time this Term on Monday May 11th .
The previous Board Meeting was held before the full impact of the COVID – 19 pandemic hit Australia, and Monday’s meeting gave us all a chance to discuss how the pandemic has affected the school and its community.
Topics Discussed Included:
- Fee remission for those families severely impacted by the pandemic.
- While the financial fallout of COVID-19 will be felt by the school, government assistance through the COVID cash boost and Job Keeper schemes will provide St Pius X with some much appreciated relief.
- Progressive Achievement (PAT) testing will be used to provide some external assessment for students in certain year levels. The benefits of this type of assessment is considered to be significant in the year levels missing out on NAPLAN this year.
- A proposal will be considered for the next stage of the building program to commence immediately once the current building is completed. The main reason for this proposal is to take advantage of the cost savings that can be achieved through staying with the same builder and not having to set-up the building site from scratch.
- Discussion about pickup and drop off procedures in the mornings and afternoons. Parents are reminded to follow all procedures as detailed and take extra care as the increased traffic congestion can be a safety risk if extra care is not taken.
The Board would like to thank all teaching and support staff who went to extraordinary efforts to setup the Connected Learning system to ensure that no student would be disadvantaged by the pandemic . The difficulty in teaching students in class as well as online has not gone unnoticed and the efforts have put many families at ease during this challenging time.
