From the APRIM - James Lloyd

Last week, some volunteers from our local Vinnies collected the non-perishable food which our community has so generously donated. They are extremely grateful for your continued generosity. Sadly, Vinnies had empty shelves until our donations arrived. They will return to collect the remaining donated food on June 10th. Please send any donations of canned food, spaghetti, pasta, rice, UHT milk etc to your child’s class in a plastic shopping bag by then. Thank you for your support.

On Sunday we celebrated the feast of Pentecost. This is when the Holy Spirit came down upon Jesus’ disciples and filled them with courage. The Holy Spirit continues to give us courage and strength today as we follow Jesus’ way in our every day lives. Our Confirmation candidates will learn more about the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit as they journey closer to this sacrament. The First Reading on Sunday was from the Acts of the Apostles, and beautifully describes the events of that day.

A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

When Pentecost day came round, the apostles had all met in one room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech.

We continue to pray for peace in our world, particularly in areas already suffering so greatly with the effects of COVID-19. In recent days, the events unfolding in the United States have been tragic. May peace return to their land and may the dignity of every person be cherished and protected.  I share with you the lyrics of a song called ‘Peace Prayer’ which are a beautiful reflection for a world in need of peace. You may like to use this as a family prayer for the week.

Lord make me a means of Your Peace
Where there’s hatred grown
Let me sow Your love
Where there’s injury Lord
Let forgiveness be my sword
When there’s sadness here
Let me sow Your joy
When the darkness nears
May Your light dispel our fears
Lord make me a means of Your Peace

May your week be blessed
