From the Principal - Ashley Keane

Dear Parents

Welcome Back
Welcome to the 2022 School Year. It has been a very different start to the school year with some children undertaking online learning from home, whilst others have been learning at school. It is great to have all of our children return to school for face to face learning.

I would like to start my first newsletter article by saying thank you to all of the families at the school for the way in which you have managed the first two weeks of the school year. Our staff have felt very supported and we sincerely appreciate your flexibility and partnership as we have navigated through a tricky first few weeks.

I would also like to thank all of the children and parents for the very warm welcome I received during my first week in the St Pius community. The number of children who come up and say hello in the yard is wonderful. I have visited all classes now and told the students that my goal for the year is to know every child by name before the end of 2022. I now just have to work out the best way to achieve this – it has been a long time since I have had to learn so many new names.

Newsletters in 2022
In 2022 we will be reducing the number of School Newsletters that we publish to 3 newsletters per term. With all parents being connected via Seesaw and the Schoolzine app, I am aware that sometimes there can be an information overload from schools. This year we will publish our school newsletters in Week’s 2, 5 & 8 of each term. This first newsletter is being published in Week 3, due to later start to school this term.

Now that we have reduced the number of newsletters that we are producing, I would encourage all parents to read the Newsletter when it is published as it will contain important and informative updates about the events around our school.

Celebrating our 60th Year
This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the opening of St Pius X school. St Pius was officially opened on March the 4th 1962 with 200 students from Kindergarten to Year 4. The school was run by the Brigidine sisters.

We are looking forward to celebrating our 60th Year in 2022. We have a number of ideas on how we might celebrate this important year in the school’s history. We are now hoping and praying that COVID restrictions allow us to return to some sense of normality so they we can host a few community events to celebrate our 60th Birthday. Stay tuned for more details as the term progresses.

New Buildings:
After a few nervous moments, I am pleased to be able to inform the community that our Year 2, 3 and 6 classes have been able to move into their new classrooms. There is still some final work to be completed in our STEM terrace and the external landscaping around the new building is still being completed. If you have come onsite you may have noticed that there is new temporary fencing near the basketball court. This fencing has been put in place in readiness for the next stage of our building project which will commence towards the end of this term. I will share further details about this stage of the building project my newsletter article.

I am very much looking forward to being part of the St Pius X school community in 2022. If you see me in the yard, please do not hesitate to come up say hello to me.

God Bless
