From the Principal - Ashley Keane
Dear Parents
Welcome to our final newsletter for Semester One. It is hard to believe that we are at the half way mark of the School Year.
School Concert
I am really looking forward to our School Concert which is now only 2 weeks away. Rehearsals for this concert are now ramping up and I am sure that the children are experiencing a mixture of nerves and excitement as we lead up to the concert.
The opportunity for children to experience the thrill of performing on a stage in front of a supportive audience is something that we want all of our children to experience.
A final reminder to parents that tickets are on sale and can be purchased through the Qkr! app. Initially a limit was placed on the purchase of tickets in order to ensure that all families have the opportunity to purchase tickets.
This limit will lift on Monday morning. There are still some families who are yet to purchase tickets, so if you have not done this, I encourage you to do so. There are still plenty of seats left for the concert.
Just a reminder about the details for the concert:
Date: Thursday 4th July
Time: 7:00pm start
Venue: Future’s Church, 57 Darley Road Paradise.
Also a reminder to parents that we have the full day rehearsal during the day and permission forms have been sent home to parents about this.
I look forward to you and your families joining us for what should be a wonderful evening of entertainment.
Confirmation
On Sunday 2nd June, 37 children from our school received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion at a celebration Mass at St Pius X Church at Dernancourt.
The Mass was officiated by Archbishop Patrick O’Regan and Father John Sebastian.
It was a wonderful celebration and it was great to see so many family and friends of the children attend.
I would like to offer a special thank you to Basia Jedrzejczak who prepared the choir to sing at the celebration. I would also like to thank the 40+ choir members who gave up their lunch times for 5 weeks and gave up their Sunday afternoon to come along and sing at the celebration. The choir sounded beautiful and their attendance at the celebration made the Mass even more special.
I would also like to thank Rita Campbell and the Year 4 teachers for their work and preparation in preparing the children for this sacrament.
It was a wonderful celebration and hopefully one which the children will remember for years to come.
School Reports
Semester One School Reports will be sent home on Wednesday 3rd July. If you have any questions or issues that you would like to discuss about your child’s report, you are invited to contact your child’s class teacher, who will convene a meeting with you early next term.
Advance Notice for Pupil Free Days in Term 3
The last day of Term 3, Friday 27th September will be a Pupil Free day. The first day of Term 4 Monday 14th October will also be a Pupil Free day. OSHC will be available on both of these days. Staff will be undertaking Professional Learning and formation on the Pupil Free days.
End of Term 2 & Start of Term 3
Just a reminder that school finishes for Term 2 at 3:00pm on Friday 5th July.
Students start back for Term 3 on Monday 22nd July.
R-2 Parents – please be reminded that the children will be attending swimming lessons on the first 3 days of Term 3.
Farewell Frank Terminello
At the end of this term Frank Terminello will be retiring from full time teaching. Frank has been teaching in the Catholic Education for 38 years and has spent the last 22 years as a teacher at St Pius X School. We will be paying a special tribute to Frank at next Wednesday’s School Assembly, which will be hosted by our Year One students.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Frank for his long serving and dedicated commitment to the St Pius X School community and wish him well as he enters the next chapter of his life journey.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents, staff and students for their wonderful work and support throughout this term. I hope that you all enjoy an enjoyable school holiday break.
God Bless!
Ashley

Fundraising
Congratulations to the Year 2 Mission Team who sold jelly cups, brownies, lolly bags, cupcakes, 2nd hand-books and toys. Together with the support of their families the 5 members of Ivy, Aweil, Kaira, Sophia and Angela raised over $200 for Catholic Charities.
Another wonderful act of strength and kindness.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
If your child is ready to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, please attend our parish Information Night on Wednesday 31st July at 6:30pm. Please meet us at St Pius X Church in Avoca Street. Reconciliation is the next sacrament to prepare for before Holy Communion and Confirmation. Fr John will explain the reason for the Sacrament and Signora Campbell will share how child will prepare at home and school as well as the support needed from the families.
Refugee Week – June 16-22
“Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you.” (Matt 2: 14)
At St Pius X School, we acknowledge that there are people from around the world who need a safe place to live and raise their family because they cannot return to their own country. So, we can show our support in helping refugees re-build their lives in Australia and celebrate the wonderful ways in which people from refugee backgrounds enrich our community. Currently there are many refugees arriving from Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, South Sudan, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Somalia. If you know of any families that require support, please contact the Australian Refugee Association (ARA) on 08 8354 2951 or email reception@ausref.net
Change of clothes
As we are approaching the wet weather, could you please make sure you place spare clothing in your child's school bag, as we have noticed that many students in Upper Primary have come to the First Aid room with wet pants and socks.
Junior Primary R-2 parents please ensure that there is always change of clothes in your child's bag.
Labelling reminder
We have had a lot of unnamed lost property handed into the front office in the last couple of weeks. If student's property is labelled it makes it easier for the office to return the items back to the owner.
Please ensure ALL your child's belongings (uniforms, lunchboxes, drinkbottles, pencil cases etc) are CLEARLY LABELLED as some items are very difficult to read.
Thank you!
