School Board Meeting - Adrian Caperna
The School Board met last Monday for the first time this term. Below are some of the key topics discussed during the meeting.
- School Board Chair Forum - Anthony Pryzibilla reported back from the forum which is an annual event that gives Chairpersons from Catholic School Boards the opportunity to meet and collaborate. Director of Catholic Education South Australia – Dr Neil McGoran presented to the forum and highlighted the many positive aspects that Catholic education provides to students. He also covered details of the ongoing strategy CESA has in place to increase the levels of excellence within Catholic education.
- Greg Parker’s Principal’s Report – Acknowledgement of the strong enrolment numbers at St Pius X, as well as the need to monitor the numbers in order to match any growth with adequate learning spaces and facilities. Greg has been working on enrolment number projections up to 2024 which will provide vital information for the upcoming building program.
- Building Update – Plans have been with the Council for a month which has allowed consultation with nearby residents to begin. To date only minor matters have been raised by the various interested parties. Confirmation that the existing electricity transformer is sufficient to power the new development; this was welcome news and will ease budget pressures.
- InitiaLit 2019 – Vanessa Dibbens provided a comprehensive report updating the Board on the progress of this program which has been implemented in Reception and Year 1. Staff Representative and Year 1 Teacher Caitlin McManus also gave the Board further details about the success this program is achieving, highlighting the way the students have embraced the structure of the program.
The next School Board meeting will be held on Monday June 17th.
