Today is the feast of St. Mary of the Cross, Australia’s first saint. Mary was a person of great faith who trusted God to care for her and provide for her. She was a person of action who, when she saw a need, did something about it. Mary began the Sisters of Saint Joseph – the Josephites. We are called to be like Mary, to be people of hospitality and welcome, to be people of action. Today we welcomed Sr Theresa Swiggs, a well-known Josephite Sister who works here in Adelaide. She spoke to our community during our prayer service about the life and work of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, and how we are called to act compassionately towards others.
Prayer
God of hospitality, who welcomed all, help us to be accepting and open to all whom we meet. May we live out Mary MacKillop’s words, “Never see a need without doing something about it”, and be willing to help all those in need. We ask this prayer through
Christ our Lord. Amen
Next Thursday (15th August) we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. In our Catholic tradition, this is a ‘holy day of obligation’, just like a normal Sunday. Mass will be held in the Hall at 11:30am on this day, and you are invited to attend. Members of our Parish Community are also invited to attend this Mass, so please arrive early to secure your seat!
I pray the week ahead brings many blessings to you.
