From the Principal - Greg Parker
Yesterday the Hillburn Avenue carpark was handed over to the school. There are 44 spaces allowing for staff and visitors during the day. If you are poping in for a visit, picking up a child, please use these spaces (you will need to walk to front of school to enter).
I have had many concerns expressed about Port Adelaide Enfield Council issuing fines to our parents for being in the queue for kiss'n'drop in the afternoon. I am arguing that now work has started on the Acton Avenue site, it is not safe or reasonable to send cars around the block. The Council is coming to observe this afternoon, so I will report to you tomorrow.
The fact is that the school owns all but one block of land in this zone so why are our parents being fined? This afternoon I will discuss an interim measure ….. to use the carpark as a circuit and get parents' cars off the street - enter carpark, do a circuit then re-enter the queue. If we can change the final sign before entering the kiss'n'drop to ‘No Parking’ we will not be contravening any signage.
Also, to help .... if you have an older child and are not in a rush to get elsewhere, consider arriving at kiss'n'drop after 3:10pm when the queue is only a few cars. Children are well supervised until 3:30pm and are then taken to OSHC if not collected.
I will report to you tomorrow on the discussions with the Council this afternoon.
Book a Chat and Book Collection Day - 22nd January 2020
At St Pius X School we commit to ‘knowing each child deeply'. I have discussed with staff a strategy for getting to know their new class at the beginning of each year ‘more deeply.’ For the past years staff have come together on the final Thursday of the school year and ‘hand over’ all of the information that they have to their students next year’s teacher. Goals are formed for the child with the commitment to ‘hit the ground running’ on the first day of the new school year. However, you, as parents, have so much more to inform your child’s new teacher of. So, in 2020, on what was traditionally ‘Book Collection Day’ we invite you to make a 15 minute time with your children's new teacher(s) and come in for a ‘chat’. Perhaps there was something that occurred over the Christmas break that you’d like to share, your thoughts of your hopes and dreams for the coming year for your child. Basically, 15 minutess to help us know your child more. You can also take the books home (they will be in the classroom waiting) for labelling, covering or whatever instructions there may be. If you are unable to attend, let your teacher know and make another time as school commences. I look forward to your feedback on this.
Information about how to ‘Book A Chat’ will be distributed with the class placement letter on Friday, 6th Decemebr along with your child's Semester Two Student Report.
Scholastic Book Club - Paula Moroney
Issue 8 has been distributed to the classes and will close for on-line and cash orders at 9am next Monday 18th November. Thank you for the support and encouragement of literacy you have shown over this year by your participation in the Book Club.
School banking will be processed on Tuesday next week instead of Monday. In order to finalise the banking and place the final order for rewards for the year, the last day for school banking will be Monday 25th November. Rewards that arrive to the school between this date and the end of term will be distributed as they arrive, however, bank books will not be processed past 25th November.
