Annual General Meeting
Next Monday, 16th March will be our School Board Annual General Meeting for 2020 when Reports will be available for the 2019 school year. As has been the custom over the past 2 years, our AGM is held ‘electronically’ through which all the community access the Reports and have the opportunity to submit 'questions with prior notice' to the Board to consider and respond to. Please submit your questions by this Friday to Susan Trimboli at strimboli@stpiusx.catholic.edu.au.
Nature Play
March 10th 2020 - mark this in your diary as a very significant day in the life of St Pius X School as we officially commenced work on our Senior Nature Play space. This is the result of over 4 years work with students, staff and Landscape Architects in creating a fabulous design that will shape the way our children engage in active play for years to come. The final January 2020 design is attached.
Other Building News - Our 8 new learning spaces and breakout spaces are proceeding well as you would no doubt notice. The next major traffic concern will be the delivery of the roofing sheets - they are so long we need to get special DPTI approval for the roads and traffic management. Delivery is likely to happen in the next 10 days and we have asked that this occurs after 9:30am to ease congestion for our families.
Initial Lit Presention
Tonight and tomorrow morning, I will enjoy presenting a Parent Forum for families with students in Year R-2 on our highly successful Initial Lit Program. We have over 150 attending! For those unable to attend, we will organise an opportunity for you to read about this program.
School Camps
Des and I very much enjoyed attending the Year 5 and 6 Camps last week. The students participated in a range of activities including knee boarding, a river cruise, caving, paddleboats, gymnastics, team building games, shelter building, go cart activities and abseiling. I believe that school camps offer something very unique and are a bonus to teachers and students in getting to know each other in a different setting. Plans for the 2021 camps are now underway.
Corona Virus
I am getting daily updates on this and will keep you all informed of any directions or instructions. Clearly the 40 second washing thoroughly of hands is something that we can act on now, knowing that there are many unknowns as to how deeply this virus will penetrate into South Australia. Thankfully at this stage our young children seem to be least affected in terms of severity, but our prayers go out to all who have been affected, especially the elderly and infirm.

Next Friday, March 20th, is National Action Against Bullying and Violence and Harmony Day at our school. A whole school Liturgy will be held at 9:00am in the De Mazenod Hall. Families are welcome to attend.
Students will be participating in class activities during the day and a whole school picnic lunch and receive a Against Bullying and Violence foldable frizbee.
Students may wear casual clothes or wear the colour orange to support Harmony Day and are asked to bring a gold coin donation which will be donated to the Kangaroo Island Land for Wildlife.
Thank you for your participation and support.
