From the Principal - Greg Parker
This will be our final Newsletter for the term and I know that all of us are looking forward to a change of pace that end of term brings. Many of the families are telling me that it’s been a long term and I think that it is to do with all of the anxiety and changes that have resulted from COVID-19. As I said to the staff, in South Australia at least there seems a far more positive outlook than at this time at the end of Term 1. Let’s pray that Victoria can overcome the outbreaks there so that as a nation, we can feel more confident about life returning to ‘near’ normal. (all this at a time when across the world there are increasing and record daily infections, so let us not forget other nations plight at the moment.)
Building Update
We are very close to announcing final approval of the new building Stage (1D). Plans were distributed previously to you but basically it’s a 12 month build connecting to our current almost complete building (1C). It includes 7 new classrooms, new toilet facilities, terraced undercover space for STEM and remediation of stormwater issues. The outdoor space will eventually become our Junior Nature Play.
We have had to undertake some immediate changes to our current build to allow us to move straight into Stage (1D) so this has put us behind schedule. At this stage, we are looking at Week 5, Term 3 moving into the new (1C) building and then demolishing the transportables.
Meanwhile the Nature Play is proceeding well despite the terrible weather. We are certainly going to have lots of ‘mud play’ facility!
Student Reports and 3 Way Conversations
Next term we plan to have our 3 way conversations in week 3. These will allow us to follow up and discuss your child’s Semester 1 Report that is going home this Friday. As stated there will also be InitialLit test results presented (R-2) and Year 2-6 PAT Maths and Reading test results. I look forward to your feedback on these.
Thank you for your patience, understanding and support through this difficult patch where restrictions still play a big role in preventing us from feeling ‘community’. However, the afternoon pick up is going well so this is much appreciated. We have volunteers back in the canteen, library and music tutors have re-commenced.
Finally, I pray that you will find family time over the break, that you all get much needed rest and recreation.
God Bless

New Building
There have been some minor delays in finishing the current build. Following the completion of the current build (known as 1C), we are planning to quickly move to the next phase of building (known as 1D).
PAT Testing
We heard that Teachers will discuss progressive InitalLit (R-2), assessment tracking (PAT) results and insights in the 3-way conversations that will take place in early Term 3. PAT testing is only relevant to years 2-6. PAT is an existing tool currently used at St Pius X.
2019 Annual Report
The 2019 Annual Report was presented to the School Board. It is now being finalised and will be sent to the St Pius X community shortly. Sharing this report with our community is an annual requirement.
New Receptions in Term 3
Eighteen new reception students started their induction in week 6 Term 2. These students attended in smaller groups and are preparing for a Term 3 2020 commencement. The School Board welcomes these new students and their families to our community. We wish them all the best.
If you have a child born between 1st November 2016 and 31st October 2017 and you would like them to attend Reception at St Pius X School in 2022 please contact Susan Trimboli on 8261 4466 as soon as possible.
We anticipate Enrolment Interviews for 2022 Reception Students will be offered in Term 3 this year and families who have already sumitted an Application Form will be contacted regarding the process once it is finalised.
Children Arriving Late to School
A reminder that the first bell rings at 8:42am each morning. Please ensure your child is at school by this time. Gates are locked soon after this bell. Students arriving after the gates are locked must enter the school via the Windsor Grove main entrance and have their late arrival recorded.
