From the Principal - Greg Parker
Thank you!
I was absolutely overwhelmed by the Gala Day, it was a tremendous success and a great credit to all of our mums and dads, families and staff who made the event so memorable. The many people that attended offered great praise of the event as a unique community celebration.
I look forward to thanking (at our Volunteer BBQ) those hardworking parents who gave up hours of time to prepare and contribute to the stalls, the security, the promotions, the counting of money and all other aspects of the day, but especially I wish to acknowledge Tania Colligan for her outstanding efforts as the P&F President. She will be sorely missed and we will thank her for her years of dedication at the Volunteers BBQ next Tuesday evening.
Over the past weeks we have been blessed with the various celebrations and memorials that have marked All Saints day, All Souls Day and Remembrance Day. Thankyou to the children and teachers and especially our APRIM, James Lloyd, who brought such meaning and reverence to these occasions.
Windsor Grove
Recently I reported that Port Adelaide Council will be remediating Windsor Grove (north side) to alleviate the flooding and pooling around the school crossing. We have decided that due to the impact this will have on morning and afternoon drop-off that this work will occur at the commencement of the December holidays. Those dropping children to and from Vacation care will need to take care and follow and Council directions during that week.
Nature Play Plans
We are still finalising this work and our children have had the opportunity to provide a large input into the various plans for the Acton Avene block site and we intend to complete the works over the school holiday break. Once plans are finalised we will publish them for you.
The major school building plans have received approval from the necessary Church and Catholic Education SA planning departments and continue to progress well.
Semester Two Student Reports and Class Placements for 2019
At this time of the year we are very busy finalising each student's Report which will be distributed to parents/caregivers on Friday, December 7th.
Thank you to those families who have provided information regarding their child's class placement. The information will help us make informed decisions about your child’s class in 2019.
Welcome to Week 5! As we journey closer to Christmas our lives suddenly gain speed and before we know it, Christmas lunch is served!
This is a busy time of year at school too. Yesterday, our Year 6/7 classes participated in a Reflection Day at Saint Pius X Church. It was a wonderful way for our senior students to reflect on their journey at primary school and continue their preparations for their next step to high school. I thank all the staff involved in making this day such a success.
Last week, you would have received as letter from me regarding our Christmas Carols Sing-a-long on Tuesday December 4th. This will be a beautiful way of celebrating the birth of Jesus and I invite you to attend if you are able. Mrs Jedrzejczak will be distributing a note to choir members to ascertain their availability. If your child receives this note, please return it to Mrs Jedrzejczak as soon as possible.
The Vinnies Christmas Appeal commences here at Saint Pius X next week. You will receive a letter from me shortly with more details about how our school community can support those less fortunate at this time of the year. In summary, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for Christmas Hampers, and new toys which will be distributed to families through our local Vinnies conference.
Have a wonderful week.
From the School Board Chairperson
Topics such as the school uniform review, internal school programs for students with high intellectual potential, a review of the Sun Smart Policy and policies around Family Law related issues were discussed.
The new building developments for 2019 are looking good and St Pius X is working on sustainable ways to pay for the school improvements.
If you have an issue you would like to have discussed at School Board level please send a letter addressed to the St Pius XSchool Board c/- the School Office. We will discuss any issue that is brought to our attention and it will be minuted in the Board reports. It is a terrific way to have any issue of personal importance raised and discussed. So if you have any feedback, criticism, thought or ideas for improvement, we can’t wait to hear from you!
