Pupil Free Day - Monday 24th February
St Pius X School has undertaken a great deal of Professional Learning that is leading to outstanding progress in Literacy. Late last year we were offered the chance to work with Lorraine Hammond who is visiting Adelaide from her home in Perth. Lorraine is nationally recognised for her expertise in Literacy and in particular teaching methods that support all children to achieve impressive growth.
This Pupil Free Day will take the place of the one usually held on the first Monday of Term 2 (so therefore that day will be a normal school day).
Parent Information Evening and P&F Welcome Barbeque
Thankyou to the P&F Committee for the free sausage sizzle last night and for welcoming parents as they visited their classroom teacher.
Teachers indicated that, in most instances, parent attendance numbers were down on previous years. Perhaps many of you felt that in your ‘Book a Chat’ meeting with your child's teacher you had already had this opportunity and therefore maybe the Parent Information Evening is no longer necessary? We provide detailed information in written form on the night to take home and perhaps we could send this home earlier and invite parents to make a time if they have any questions.
I’d really appreciate your feedback on this.
Leave
I would like to inform you that our Year 3 teacher, Frank Terminello, will be taking leave from Monday 24th February for two weeks, the APRIM James Lloyd Weeks 5, 6 and 7 this Term and Deputy Principal, Des Henthorn, Study Leave in Weeks 1-5 in Term 2. James and Frank will be replaced internally and I will advertise for an Acting Deputy Principal and inform the community in good time.
Building Update
We remain slightly behind on schedule but you will appreciate the work already undertaken. Next Monday Morning, 17th February, there will be significant deliveries to the site on Acton Avenue and at this stage the first floor slab will be poured on Wednesday 19th February and this will mean a steady flow of concrete mixer trucks from 6:00am till 11:00am so please avoid this area. If you are walking around this area please stay on the opposite southern side of Windsor Grove or park north of the school and come through the entrance into the oval area. We will have extra staff on duty.
I will confirm this work on these days on the SZapp.
Next Monday the slab for the new shed will be poured, followed by some remedial works in preparation for the Nature Play project. Suffice to say, when I decided to explore Leadership some 20 years ago, I wasn’t thinking that managing building projects would be a major focus! I remember doing an induction course where I was warned about building projects and ‘whatever you do, don’t change school uniforms, it’s just too hard!’ Greg, you didn’t listen!
Speaking of our uniforms the children look great and parents seem happy with the choice of the new uniform, sports or active wear in the transition period. The only concern I have is that children are trying to wear shoes with the sports uniform that are clearly not ‘mostly white.’ Please support us and not allow this, a reminder that this has been school policy for decades and hasn’t changed. If you can’t find a pair that is ‘mostly white’ please speak with Athletes’ Foot at Tea Tree Plaza, they have many options.
God Bless
From the Deputy Principal - Des Henthorn
School Uniform Update
We have had a lot of inquiries regarding the new Winter Uniform. I have met with our supplier today and I can now share the following information -
The winter uniform will be available for purchase from the JS Sports Uniform Shop from Tuesday 14th of April (first week of the School Holidays).
The shop located at 10 Newton Road, Campbelltown and is open during the following hours -
Monday 8am - 12pm
Tuesday 8am - 12pm
Wednesday 1pm - 6pm
Thursday 1pm - 6pm
Friday - CLOSED
Saturday - 8am - 12pm
Sunday - CLOSED
As the existing rugby top complements the new uniform we have decided to continue with this item. There is also the choice of a boss top jumper and a soft shell jacket. Parents can make a choice as to which item they would like to purchase.
When JS Sports Uniform Shop create a link for orders to be placed online I will share this with the community. It is my understanding that uniforms that are ordered online will be delivered to the school once a week. We will distribute these orders via the office box to students.
If you are currently awaiting on items, we are expecting them to arrive in the week commencing the 24th February.
Last Thursday, we celebrated our Beginning of Year Mass with Fr Mathew. This is always a beautiful experience, and for many of our new Receptions, their first whole school liturgical celebration. As always, the singing was exceptional, and Mrs Jedrzejczak prepared the children impeccably. During the Mass, our staff were commissioned for the year of learning that 2020 will bring. If you are following us on Facebook, there are some photos and a video of this moving moment. Thank you to those members of our parent/grandparent community who were able to attend.
Lent is just around the corner, and soon, your child will bring home a ‘Project Compassion’ box. Each week, there will be a story about a community who is assisted by our donations to Project Compassion and we will publish these in our school newsletters. These stories will also be discussed in class. I thank you in advance for your continued generosity.
Letters have been sent home to families of Year 3 children who are baptised Catholics, inviting them to enroll in the Sacrament Program. Thank you to those families who have returned the enrolment forms, Baptism Certificates and fee. Please be reminded that these are due back at school by Friday 21st February.
I pray that the week ahead brings you many blessings.
Eva, in Year 5B/T, who represented the Grange Golf Club and was awarded a Pennant - Well Done Eva!
