Dear Parents and Caregivers
As we approach the end of the term I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all your support while I have been Acting Principal. It has been a wonderful experience professionally and I am thankful for the opportunity.
We have received many phone calls in relation to recent parking infringements around the school. Please see below for information regarding this.
Catholic Schools Music Festival Performance
Congratulations to Mrs Jedrzejczak on a wonderful Festival Choir this year. Our students were amazing last night and I'm sure as parents you were extremely rpoud of your children.
I hope you enjoy some relaxing family times these holidays and we look forward to seeing you all next term.
Safe holidays!
Welcome to the final week of Term 3.
This term has been so busy and filled with many memorable moments - I’m sure you have a particular time which comes to mind. For me, it was journeying with our Sacrament Program Candidates as they prepared for their Reconciliation a few weeks ago.
This coming Friday, we will be having a ‘Casual Clothes Day’ to raise money for the Catholic Charities Appeal. We are asking all children to bring a gold coin to donate on the day. This can be given to class teachers first thing on Friday morning. Thank you for your generosity.
Next term we will celebrate several prayer services which you are invited to. Some dates for your diary are:
Friday 1st November 9:15am All Saints Day Prayer Service
Tuesday 5th November 9:15am All Souls Day Prayer Service
Monday 11th November 9:15am Remembrance Day Prayer Service
I take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout Term 3. Enjoy the school holidays, and for those who are able, have a well deserved rest!
Casual Clothes Day - this Friday
This Friday children may wear casual clothes and are asked to bring a gold coin donation which will go towards Catholic Charities.
You're invited to come along to celebrate Culture in a Cup - an opportunity to share and learn about cultural traditions with our school community through food, stories and craft on Friday 25th October from 9-11am in the DeMazenod Hall.
We look forward to seeing you there - please bring a plate of morning tea to share.
Please ensure that you have returned the forms distributed to you which will enable us to arrange Kindergarten visits and care for your child while they attend Orientation next term.
School Board Report from the September Meeting - Marta Kalinowski
Tournament of the Minds - Des informed us about the which took place on Sunday 8th of September at Flinders University. The group of Year 5 and 6 students did a fantastic job throughout the competition, showing great team work, creativity as well initiative in the challenges that they were given. We are extremely proud. The students also were given the opportunity to present their work at last Monday’s assembly, which provided insight to all, as to what was involved in the tournament.
Update on Building Plans - Des has met with the staff from Horizons who will be looking after the Stage 1 Capital Development. The staff had been inducted and child protection requirements were addressed. It is expected that the work will commence during the Term 3 School Holidays, starting with the replacement of the air conditioners. As a result, the Hilburn Avenue Car Park will be closed at the end of the term 3 to accommodate the builders on site. Currently the P&F Shed is being emptied with the intention of it being a short-term building site office.
Parking around the school - It has been pointed out that some parents are still dropping off their children to school by parking on the yellow lines at the Windsor Grove Crossing. This is of great concern to the board as it is not only illegal but also it compromises student safety.
With the capital development commencing next term, it is probable that the traffic before and after school will become congested as a result of construction on site.
It is imperative that child safety is put first and we ask all families to follow the parking restrictions, which are there to best accommodate the traffic flow.
We are very excited that Stage 1 will commence next week with the development of our new car park on Hillburn Avenue.
We do anticipate some disruption to traffic flow around the school next term. Staff and trades people will be parking their vehicles on the street. Where possible contractors will utilize the vacant block behind the green shed, but this will not accommodate everyone. We anticipate this continuing for most of Term 4.
We suggest that you arrive to school earlier in the morning to accommodate these changes. In the afternoons if your child is not waiting for you at kiss’n’drop you will be asked to move on. Teachers dismiss students at 3.00pm. If you arrive at the school between 3.10 – 3.25pm I feel confident we will be able to keep traffic flowing through the kiss’n’drop. Parents who arrive prior to 3.00pm and park their cars in the kiss’n’drop hinder the flow of traffic.
We ask again that you check parking signs and avoid dropping children in places that are not safe (yellow solid lines).
We apologise for the inconvenience the building process will cause and ask parents to plan their day allowing additional time in the morning to support a safe drop off and, in the afternoon, come a little later, ensuring your child has time to get to your agreed pick up location.
When we are advised of deliveries or services that may place additional strains on accessing the school, we will alert you via the SZApp.
We thank you for your cooperation during this busy and exciting time.
Update on our new School Uniform
As you are aware, we are in the process of developing a new Active Wear school uniform. We have a very dedicated Uniform Committee and School Board that have been working hard through the development process.
We have engaged a service provider and early next term we will be in a position to start the design process. From there we will have a better idea of timelines and exactly when the new uniform will be available for our families to purchase. Given where we are in the process it seems unlikely that there will be a new uniform available before Term 2, 2020 .
We apologies for the delay in sharing this information. We did hope to be clearer on timelines, but this is a process that we are dedicated to and want to ensure that we are pleased with the final product.
Thank you to the community for your feedback - it has been considered and discussed at length, not only by the Committee but the School Board.
Students will be required to wear the current Summer Uniform next term and in Term 1, 2020,
An exception has been made for the Reception class (RT/D) which commenced at the beginning of this term. The Board will be meeting in October and we will then be in a position to advise these families and those commencing school in 2020 what the uniform requirements will be.
Our school will support a three year transition period from old uniform to new, meaning you may continue to wear the current school uniform for up to three years.
