Teaching and Learning
At St Pius X School we aim to offer a broad range of curriculum to assist your child to grow in his/her total development.
We embrace the Catholic Education vision that we seek to nurture thriving people, capable learners, leaders for the world God desires.
Student learning is core to all policies, procedures and practices at St Pius X School. The curriculum is drawn from guidelines outlined by the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) and the Australian Curriculum. Learning Areas include - Religious Education, English, Mathematics, History and Social Science, Science,The Arts, Design and Technology, Health and Physical Education, Music and LOTE (Italian).
The Key Learning Areas provide our students with a broad range of knowledge, skills and dispositions that will prepare them for the dynamic society in which they live and will work. They are introduced to bodies of knowledge aimed to develop inquiring habits of mind and action, skills and values, which are so fundamental to living in a post-modern world and to being lifelong learners.
Core to our learning programme is a deep, rich phonics programme R-6 that provides every learner with the tools to become successful, literate persons.
Our Mathematics programme continues to be acknolwedged and recognised, winning several State Mathematics Awards over the past three years.
In the Classroom
The environment in the classroom is critical to the development of our students and their enjoyment in their learning. Teachersengage students in learning that is relevant and meaningful, providing real opportunities for students to develop and nurture theirtalents.
Teachers are also looking for individual learning needs and these students receive a little extra support and assistance.
Our students are active learners – they are problem-solving, discovering things about their world and presenting their knowledge and achievements to their class. They are learning in a hands-on classroom.
Information and communication technology is not only embraced by our school, it is embedded in each classroom - we reflect the world our students will not only move into… it’s a world they already know.
Each child’s progress is continually monitored and assessed by the classroom teacher/s.
Detailed curriculum outlines of each learning area are provided to parents at the beginning of each school term. An explanation of the curriculum overview, classroom practices and procedures are given at a Parent Information Meeting held in Term1 of each year. Parents are kept informed about their child’s progress through formal Parent/Teacher interviews also held in Term 1and through formal written reports issued twice per year. Parents are invited to contact their teacher and arrange an interview at anytime to discuss their child’sprogress.
